NAMs Race One

Race Day One,
Today was promised that we would have building pressure up to 15 knots with the prevailing thermal breeze.  The first race was delayed due to light patchy winds, and once racing got under way the race was started in a light south west wind much lighter that what had been predicted.  Over the next couple of races after a couple of squalls had passed through the wind eventually started to build and reached to a peak of 15 knots.
Race One
Flight One - Nick 14th, Eliza 34
Flight Two - Michael 10th
Flight Three - Trent 59th
Race one saw some very challenging conditions with some left over chop from and early breeze.  The sailors found this very hard but as the race progressed Nick and Michael started to work their was through the fleet for a couple of good early placings.
Race Two
Flight One - Nick  9th
Flight Two - Eliza 19th
Flight Three - Trent 7th, Michael 9th
Race two saw more steadier breeze with all sailors coming off the line with a clear lane and good speed, which reflected in their results.
Race Three
Flight One - Nick 26th
Flight Two - Trent 16th
Flight Three - Eliza 20th, Michael 28th
Race three saw the best breeze of the day, from the end of race two the sailors were pumped and ready for this challenge, everyone started well with good speed.  Unfortunately the result did not reflect the effort the the sailors put in.
All sailors and the coach were happy with the day and are looking forward to breeze and great sailing tomorrow.
The highlight of our evening was watching our coach play goalie for the coaches soccer game, least we shall say that he is a better sailing coach than a soccer player!!!!  Did you know that they only put you in goal when you are not playing so well in the field.
Catch you tommorrow

NAMS 2010 2

Hi Everyone,

It has been two days since our last report, yesterday we woke up to rain and some good wind so the team headed out for a practice at around 12pm and finished the afternoon sail lining up against a number of other teams for a race.  They all did well and  were all happy with their boat speed and how they were sailing.  Yesterday was the offical opening day of the regatta and we had the opening ceremony last night.  Unfortunately the weather was not so nice but the rain manage to stop for the teams to do their parade down the street piped by a pipe band player to a grand looking hall here in the University grounds.  Once inside all the teams representatives went on stage with the country flags, and the town cryer opened the ceremony.  The offical speeches took place all pretty standard and it was all done and dusted pretty quickly.

Just for a difference today we had a very over cast day with no wind. Everyone headed out at around 12pm for a practice race, but due to the lack of wind the racing was abdandoned at around 2pm. Tonight it predicted that we will get a storm and have wind tomorrow, but it is already 8.55pm and there is no sign of a storm and it is as still as.  Hopefully it will kick in as they have said and we will have some great racing.

Catch you all later

NAMS 2010 (report)

25 June 2010

NAMS 2010 Report One

We have all arrived safely with no problems on the airline with our gear etc, although due to a earthquake (5.5) Trent and Michaels sail tubes did not arrive into Kingston until 5.00pm on Wednesday hence the sailors were not able to get on the water yesterday, except Eliza and Nick who had travelled 16 hours with a 10 hour stop over in LA, but as you can probably understand they were just not ready for a sail.

Thursday morning rolled around with black skies, rain and very light winds.  We all ventured down to the club after a very nice breakfast feeling like it would be a wet day only to see that blue sky was on the way and the sun was about to shine.  The sailors enjoyed two sessions on the water with breeze ranging from 6 - 15 knots.  Conditions were great to test new gear and to go over the all aspects of the new sailing venue. They found the conditions to be quite different from that at home, but quite confident they will obtaining the knowledge before the regatta starts

We all enjoyed a great night in a park having dinner and playing around with a fizbee, all ready for tomorrow for measurement at 10.00am.
