How to be a Successful Optiparent Take the guesswork out of how you support your child learning to sail!
Here is a book aimed at the parents of new Optimist sailors. It deals with all the things that you need to know as new sailing parents while taking your children from new learners to serious racing. Rather than covering learn to sail material covered in many books elsewhere, it focuses on the many things the PARENTS need to know. The material has been reviewed by Julie Worth at Yachting New Zealand and is compatible with the official Learn to Sail syllabus, and includes content on:
- Making it fun
- Motivation
- Setting realistic goals
- Buying boats
- Clothing and accessories
- Checklists
- Home regattas
- Transport
- Away regattas
- Coaching
- Nutrition
- Fitness
- Repairs and maintenance
- Progression to top level competition

"I believe it 'hits the spot' for the target audience, and will open their eyes to issues that they will be confronted with as they become more involved in their kids sailing development." - David Glen, President NZIODA
"I thought it was excellent." &endash; Derek Snow, father of Paul Snow-Hansen 2nd Optimist World Championships 2004.
